How to Cast a Spell

And Why it Will or Won’t Work

From Santeria to Satanism and beyond, spellcasting has been and continues to be part of the religious traditions of many different people all around the world. Spells are something sacred, and they need to be treated as such, not just by witches and wizards but by everyone. More to the point, the reason that most conjurations often fail is that the caster is either performing a ritual in an effort to test the efficacy of spells or is asking for something that is impossible to achieve.

Spells can’t violate the laws of physics and metaphysics. The truth is that they can only change the likelihood that something will happen in a certain way. More importantly, magic is just the result of confident expectation. So, the damaging impacts of doubt cannot be overstated when it comes to the success of a spell. This is why, as a general rule, you can tell people that you cast spells if you want to, but you should never tell them which ones you have cast. This is because even other people’s skeptical attitudes can have detrimental effects on your spells.

Given that the practice of spellcasting can be very complicated, spellcasters have had to develop a number of techniques to assist themselves in the process. Throughout the years, ceremonial magicians have learned how to use countless different methods to accomplish an array of different tasks. As just one example, in some cases, intense sexual ecstasy is used to perform blissful rites of tantric blessings. The fact is that the awesome power of the soul can be harnessed in any and every conceivable way.

For instance, in the smaller scales of existence, quantum entanglement occurs when particles interact in ways such that the state of each cannot be described independently of the others when separated. Instead, a state must be described for the system as a whole. In this way, physics touches on the concept that an object can be effected without being physically touched by another object. That is to say, it is a nonlocal interaction of objects that are separate from one another.

Numerous things operate off of the principle that this power is a function of past proximity. As an example of what I mean, in metaphysics, this is the basis for certain esoteric practices. That is to say, contagious magic is based on the idea that things once in contact can afterward influence each other. This is a branch of the arcane mysteries based on the belief that things that have come in contact with each other are then permanently attached in certain ways, regardless of how separate they may become.

This gets us to the notion that things once associated are then always able to affect one another even when they are apart, such that anything done to an object will affect its former owner. So, someone using this form of spellcraft might attempt to affect a person through something that was once intimately connected with them, like a piece of jewelry often worn by the person. Better yet, one would want to have a lock of their hair or some fingernail clippings.

As part of this, it’s believed that there is a permanent relationship between an individual and any part of his or her body. The whole point is that people, places, and things tend to retain strange kinds of bonds with all the stuff they come in contact with over time. In other words, everything seems to leave long-lasting impressions on the world. The result of all of this is that there are a number of hidden connections in the intricately entangled web of our reality. The occult power of association is quite remarkable in this way.

Along with this, sympathetic magic is the ritual use of objects and actions resembling or symbolically associated with an event or person over which influence is sought. This is how a poppet, or “voodoo doll” is made. A representation of someone is filled with objects that once belonged to them, thereby making use of both kinds of magic, contagious and sympathetic. Thus, a moppet of a woman might be made from a garment she owned and then filled with her hair. It could even include a picture of her on the head of the doll.

As part of this, consecration is the act of making something sacred, through a solemn dedication to a special purpose. In other words, anytime something is exclusively dedicated to the service of magic, then it becomes consecrated. This unction can be as simple as a solitary visionary artist anointing a paintbrush or it can be more formal like a priestess placing a dab of oil on an initiate in front of an entire magical order during a rite of passage.

In regards to this, during magical group ceremonies such as this, masks can be far more useful than crowns, which share the same symbolism. So, learn the difference between practical and theatrical ritual items if you want to do ceremonial magic properly. Furthermore, these kinds of objects are all ritual items that no one else but you should ever see or touch. They can be made in any way for any reason, or not at all.

Like temples, altars can be simple and practical or meticulously crafted in fine detail. The important thing to consider is how a ritual chamber is to be used, not necessarily what it will look like. Unless architecture is meant to be awe-inspiring then utility is more important than beauty. For instance, altars can serve as storage spaces as well as work surfaces. Therefore, some practitioners choose to place their ritual items in cabinets and drawers built directly into their altars.

Of course, whatever works for you is whatever works for you, including various different arcane practices like divination, conjuration, and incantation, to name but a few. In regards to this, it’s important to realize that the metaphysical plane of existence offers souls a different perspective of time than that of the bodies in the physical plane of existence. This is because temporal subjectivity and temporal objectivity are very different, making specific distinctions between the present and the future.

As such, one particular occult legend behind divination holds that coming events can cast their shadows out in front of themselves. So, omens are thought to be a glimpse of this. Simply put, divination is the process of generating and receiving an omen and then recognizing the importance of it. In practice, a tool like that of tarot cards often serves as a specific focal point for such insight to occur. The presentation is then interpreted.

In line with this, every tarot card reading is a kind of ritual, even if regalia and paraphernalia are not employed. By the mutual agreement of their coming together for the purpose, a ritual team is formed, one as the querent, the other as the interpreter of the oracle. The querent poses a question of inquiry to the oracle, and the interpreter consults the fall of the cards to find an answer.

By using an interpreter, the querent can avoid any conscious interaction with the cards, or more specifically the outcome thereof. As the querent concentrates on a question, it is supplanted in the collective unconscious, whereby it is transferred to the interpreter. This means that neither party can actively influence the outcome by allowing a desired outcome to manifest.

The tarot uses a highly evocative symbol language to speak directly to the unconscious mind, which over time can create a strong subconscious emotional response. In this way, the cards can also be used as a focal point for spells and be the focus of visualization in the same way that sigils are used. In other words, tarot cards can be deliberately arranged to form a pictorial statement of intent.

This process, like all magical operations, works by influencing a probability to coincide with an individual’s desire. Because there are numerous factors that influence the course of daily life, there are multiple probabilities for the directions which circumstances can take. Among the things that can shape events are conscious and unconscious thoughts, for instance.

Thus, tarot cards can serve as a means for one to focus and communicate desires to an individual’s subconscious in the language of symbols. Then, such desires fold back onto reality and, if successful, manifest as they were intended to. The point is that the tarot can be used for divination, as well as conjuration, and a number of other things as well.

In regards to this, based on the nature of contingency, it is best to use short-term divination and long-term conjuration when practicing magic. In other words, don’t give the future long enough to change the likelihood of anything, but do give the cosmos long enough to manifest something. Think of it this way, in simple everyday language, it just takes time to do things, which often have a way of changing, sometimes in very unexpected ways.

Typically speaking, conjurations are often done in conjunction with a statement of intent, which is usually expressed as a positive affirmation. In this way, in an effort to prevent any unnecessary doubt or desire or any other barrier to success, it is possible to direct the cosmos to bring about a given result through the use of sigils and incantations. These can then serve as sufficiently incoherent representations of the essential elements found in one’s specific magical operations.

In this way, a sigil can work as a focal point, being a visual stimulus, representing the essence of that which will occur. Similarly, incantations are far more than rhythmic recitations. Like sigils, they serve as instructions, commanding the cosmos to make something occur. These are then backed up by the faith of the soul, having an absolute assurance that things will occur as such.

To formulate a sigil, start by generating a statement of intent:

Next, remove all the repeating letters in the sentence:

Then, arrange those letters into a single symbol:

In regards to this, it’s very important to understand that existence doesn’t respond well to the concept of negation. As such, the affirmation “I am healthy” is more easily processed by the cosmos than “I am not diseased” although both have essentially the same meaning. With that in mind, also remember that the notion of being wealthy is different from not being poor. These are very important distinctions to make when casting spells.

As part of this, incantations can be produced in much the same way as sigils. You just need to make a mantra instead of a glyph:

Lum Fo’Wynth Ske’Di

The resulting magical formula might then be pronounced “loom-fa-wenth-skuh-dee” and would be repeated over and over, again and again, getting faster and faster until the sounds finally merge into unintelligible glossolalia. In this way, doubt could be dispelled while simultaneously a spell could be cast to reveal one’s true calling in life. Just remember, the key to all of this lies in forgetting what the mantra actually symbolizes.

Once a statement of intent has been expressed and a sigil or incantation has been constructed it automatically enters into the collective unconscious of everyone on the planet. Following this, the image or phrase must then be put aside for a sufficient period, typically among other glyphs or mantras which are also in waiting. Some spellcasters even trade their sigils and incantations, making sure not to reveal what they mean to each other in the process. This can greatly increase the chances of success.

Unfortunately, in spite of all of this, for many people, the reality is that the results of magic might not manifest when or how they want them to. This is a very important point that simply cannot be overemphasized. With that in mind, it’s highly advisable for spellcasters to be patient and to accept what they get. After all, it could take days, months, or even years for something to happen, and if you aren’t ready for what might occur then the effects of your spells may just go unnoticed. More importantly, don’t become one of those people who get exactly what they wish for but then wish they hadn’t.

Please, cast with caution.
